Press Release | Connecting Miami to New York: Istituto Marangoni Miami’s Fashion Movement Welcomes a Top Industry Talent

Former Director of Fashion Programs, Provost’s Office at The New School’s Parsons School of Design, and current Member of the CFDA, Keanan Duffty, joins Istituto Marangoni Miami as the new Dean of Fashion.

Miami, FL — Istituto Marangoni Miami has the honor of welcoming Keanan Duffty as its new Dean of Fashion starting January 2023. Duffty’s unique blend of European heritage and American curriculum will bring a fresh vision to the school as it continues to expand, instilling a sense of optimism for its future while upholding its European heritage and integrating its American curriculum.

“It took a long time to find the right fit for Marangoni,” explains Hakan Baykam, founder and CEO of Istituto Marangoni Miami. “We wanted someone who was coming from a top US school but also had the European heritage that Marangoni holds, someone who was not just ‘fashion’ but also had a background in art and music, which encapsulates Miami. We are happy to have Keanan joining the Miami Fashion Movement as we continue to grow.”

Duffty is an award-winning British fashion designer, musician, educator, and author of “Rebel Rebel: Anti-Style.” He is also a member of the Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA) and the Council of Fashion Designers of America Education Committee. Duffty’s extensive industry experience ranges from his own New York-based fashion label with collections sold globally at 150 premium retailers, including Bergdorf Goodman, Bloomingdales, and Barneys New York, collaborations with Aveda, Dr. Martens, Gola, and Reebok, and serving as Design Director for John Varvatos, Ben Sherman, Gwen Stefani’s L.A.M.B., and Moods of Norway. In 2003, he dressed the Sex Pistols for their American tour, and in 2007, he worked alongside David Bowie to create the Bowie-inspired fashion collection for Target.

Prior to joining Istituto Marangoni Miami, also known as The Miami Fashion School, Duffty founded the Master’s program in Fashion Management at Parsons School of Design in 2019 and served as its Director following his time as Director of Fashion Programs in Executive and Continuing Education.

As the new Dean of Fashion, Duffty is committed to maintaining the finest standard of teaching that is an integral part of the school’s DNA. Moreover, he will actively foster the most exclusive and innovative fashion partnerships for students. With a clear goal of enriching the school’s academic excellence, he will provide students with diverse opportunities to help them reach their fullest potential and succeed in their future fashion careers, instilling a sense of reassurance about the quality of education and the potential for growth.

“I am absolutely thrilled to join Istituto Marangoni Miami as Dean of Fashion and I am eager to bring my extensive network and global fashion experience to this institution,” expressed Duffty. “In my conversations with Hakan Baykam, I discovered that we share a vision for Miami to become the next academic and industry leader in fashion.” This shared vision and Duffty’s enthusiasm for his new role will inspire hope and excitement about the future of Istituto Marangoni Miami.

Keanan Duffty will begin his new role as Dean of Fashion at Istituto Marangoni Miami in January 2023. He will divide his time between Miami and New York to create new relationships between the two cities and the fashion industry. Part of Istituto Marangoni Miami’s mission statement includes expanding the Miami Fashion Movement and making Miami the next fashion hub within the Americas.
