DESIGNER BIBHU MOHAPATRA TO SPEAK ABOUT THE CROSS-CULTURE OF FASHION AT ISTITUTO MARANGONI MIAMI DURING THE SECOND EDITION OF “IN CONVERSATION WITH”

[MIAMI, FLORIDA, OCTOBER 3rd, 2018] Istituto Marangoni Miami’s President, Hakan Baykam, announced today that designer Bibhu Mohapatra will be the second guest of the “In Conversation With” series of talks hosted at the Miami Campus of Istituto Marangoni. Last July, Steven Kolb, President and CEO of CFDA (Council of Fashion Designers of America), was the first speaker at this event and spoke about the challenges of fashion and gave career advice to emerging designers and students.

“Bringing together top players in the industry to provoke new thinking is one of the main objectives of hosting these conversations. Bibhu Mohapatra will be our second guest and he will talk about culture,” said Baykam. “I’m thrilled to host a designer that understands the power culture has in our lives and in the business of fashion giving our multicultural students an unprecedented opportunity for exchange, inspiration, and creativity.”

With the aim of turning Miami into an internationally recognized fashion hub, world-renowned Italian fashion and design school, Istituto Marangoni, will be holding these series of talks with the most influential names in fashion and design at their Miami Campus. The project is taking place in partnership with their advisory board member, renowned fashion business expert, Eva Hughes, who will also be moderating the talks.

Born in India and living in New York for the last 20 years, Mohapatra will discuss the challenges of balancing heritage and success, the new culture of doing business in fashion, the importance of adapting to new consumer behaviors and technology as the industry evolves. “I look forward to my conversation at Istituto Marangoni Miami to discuss the ever increasing importance of culture as fuel for the fashion business,” said Mohapatra, who will celebrate the 10th anniversary of his own fashion label next February 2019.

The recently opened Istituto Marangoni Miami offers a new base to emerging local and international fashion students who wish to express their creativity and learn key industry skills. With a highly qualified faculty, combining European professors and prominent local professionals, the school offers a two-year Associate of Arts Degree in Fashion Studies, a four-year Bachelor’s Degree in Fashion Design, Fashion Styling and Fashion Business, also offering a Master’s in Fashion & Luxury Brand Management, adding to a number of shorter courses and continuing education workshops and seminars throughout the academic year.
