NAVIGATING FASHION MARKETING
Teaching Methods

The “Cut and Construction” level at Istituto Marangoni Miami is intended to allow students to improve their design abilities and develop their creative voice translated into their fashion collection. Students investigate modern visual styles and trends to guide their design process through hands-on workshops, design critiques, and industry insights. Our knowledgeable instructors assist students in developing their silhouettes and exploring 3D fabrication methods, enabling them to turn their design ideas into actual clothing. To elevate the visual impact of their creations, students also experiment with fabric finishing techniques like printing and dyeing. Our teaching strategies, which prioritize professional development and practical experience, equip students with the skills necessary to succeed in fashion design’s fast-paced and competitive world.

Students participate in cooperative projects that simulate real-world challenges in design in addition to practical application and design reviews, which promote teamwork and innovative problem-solving abilities. Professionals from the business give guest lectures that enhance students’ comprehension of the constantly changing fashion world by offering insightful commentary on current trends and market demands. Students refine their creative concepts and hone their technical skills with the help of seasoned faculty members who provide them with individualized coaching and critique during studio sessions. Students can push the limits of conventional garment construction through hands-on experience with a wide range of materials and techniques, which encourages originality and experimentation in their design process.

Learning Outcomes

Throughout Level 3: Cut and Construction, students delve deeper into the intricacies of fashion design, refining their design style and vision. They will be able to use the knowledge and skills they have gained from earlier levels to design and create their fashion collections. Students become more attuned to new trends and customer preferences through critical analysis of modern visual aesthetics and market trends. They will demonstrate how well they are able to translate their design concepts into real garments with creative silhouettes using 3D fabrication techniques. Furthermore, students will broaden their knowledge of fabric finishing methods, such as printing and dyeing, improving their capacity to produce lively and visually striking designs. By the end of the level, students emerge as confident and professional designers, equipped with a comprehensive understanding of the design process and the technical skill development necessary to succeed in the fashion industry.

Industry Engagement

At Istituto Marangoni Miami, industry interaction is a top priority to give our students access to industry experience and excellent networking possibilities. Students enrolled in Level 3: Cut and Construction have an outstanding opportunity to experience firsthand knowledge of the inner workings of the fashion business through strategic partnerships with industry professionals. Through industry events, guest lectures, and workshops, students can gain a firsthand understanding of the practices, trends, and difficulties facing the fashion business today. They can also forge essential relationships with fashion professionals and better understand industry dynamics.

In addition, students in Level 3 and above have a better opportunity to take part in renowned design contests, using their developing professional skills and knowledge to earn admission to these competitions. By providing a forum for students to demonstrate their ability, originality, and technical proficiency on a larger scale, these contests help students become more visible and credible in the business. Students enrolled in Level 3: Cut and Construction fashion courses receive extensive support and guidance to navigate the complexities of the fashion industry through our commitment to industry engagement. This equips them with the knowledge, skills, and connections necessary to succeed in their future careers as fashion designers.

Facilities and Resources

Istituto Marangoni Miami is located in the well-known Miami Design District, home to more than 150 luxury stores, allowing students to participate in such a grand fashion and design community. Our seven-story structure was thoughtfully designed to accommodate the diverse requirements of our students, creating an environment that fosters creativity and learning. There are facilities specifically created for each floor, including fully equipped photography studios, theory classes, and ateliers for design work. We have cutting-edge digital design tools like Clo3D in our computer laboratories and industry-standard programs like Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, and InDesign. Furthermore, students can access abundant resources, including a vast physical and virtual library with relevant research materials and references to support their academic and career advancement. How To Apply

If you are interested in applying to our 11-Week Level Courses in Fashion Design, the first step in the admissions process would be the Online Application. Once completed, a detailed email will be sent with instructions on how to proceed with your registration: document submission and visa application, if applicable. International students will have further assistance throughout their visa solicitation process with our Designated School Official (DSO). Once your registration has been completed, you will receive instructions about housing options, orientation, and more.

CURRICULUM

At this level, through a personalized curriculum, students will explore their designs and collections, applying the know-how and knowledge they have progressively gained. They will investigate contemporary visual aesthetics to achieve a sensibility to trends and the market. Students will demonstrate skills in 3D construction and silhouette development. By defining a variety of fabric finishing, such as printing and dying, students will move forward in their professional growth as designers.

COLLECTION DESIGN

In the collection design course, students will investigate and analyze a contemporary fashion theme to develop original concepts as a starting point for designing a fashion collection. In this fashion illustration course, they will have a deep understanding of their brand identity and art applied to collection development. They will be assessed on their fashion illustration techniques and complete collection presentation.

VISUAL COMMUNICATION

In this visual communication course, students will use various CAD skills to present a fashion collection. They will also gain expertise in technical tools such as Photoshop and Adobe Illustrator to present their final assignment of communication boards and technical charts about their collections.

CONSTRUCTION

With their base knowledge of pattern cutting, this class will seamlessly teach them capabilities in garment construction techniques associated with silhouettes and details. Students will have hands-on practice creating a kimono, a raglan, and a classic blazer and elaborate an outfit using all learned skills.

Mario Braghieri has been involved in fashion production for over thirty years. At a young age, his parents owned a manufacturing company that created high-quality samples and prototypes for countless well-known brands in Italy. He attended Istituto Marangoni Milan with the desire to leave his mark in the fashion market as a pattern maker. Upon graduating, he developed samples and worked in fashion production for the Nadini Group, an Italian designer label manufacturer based in Modena-Italy, including designer houses such as Gianfranco Ferrè and Fendi. Subsequently, he worked as a fashion production consultant and started his career at Marangoni as an assistant teacher. Mario has always pursued his career with determination, focusing on deepening his knowledge and skills in garment construction and pattern making. He has worked for renowned fashion names such as Emporio Armani, Maska, Cerruti, Mariella Burani, and Karl Lagerfeld. For the past 27 years, Mario has been a major player in guiding Istituto Marangoni through its international growth, bringing his technical knowledge, industry expertise, and garment-making finesse to the School. Michelle Rofe has her master’s degree in graphic design from MIU. She believes that these two art disciplines complement each other in many ways. FAQ

What are the prerequisites for enrolling in the fashion business program?

Prospective students must be 18 years old or possess a high school diploma to be eligible for our fashion business classes. Previous experience in fashion business is not required, but a strong passion for creativity and a desire to learn are essential.

How can I sign up for the 11-Week Level classes?

To join our programs, first schedule a meeting with our admissions team to review program details and requirements. After the meeting, you can then submit your online application and the $1000 USD registration fee, which is deducted from the total tuition. Additionally, you must provide the following admission documents: identification, resume, bank statement, and sponsor letter if necessary. Further assistance will be provided via email following the meeting.

Can I enroll in Fashion Business Level 2 without completing Level 1?

To gain entry into level 2 of the fashion business course, candidates must have finished level 1. However, individuals with extensive experience in fashion business can gain admission to Level 2 through a portfolio assessment. The Academic Committee may grant exemptions after reviewing the candidate's portfolio.

Can international students enroll in the 11-Week Programs offered at Istituto Marangoni Miami?

International students have the opportunity to register for an 11-week course as a component of our One Year Vocational Program. We facilitate the M1 visa for students in need of a student visa. Our Designated School Official will assist you with the visa process to simplify the admissions procedure following your application.
