ISTITUTO MARANGONI MIAMI AWARDS TORY BURCH WITH AN HONORARY MASTER’S DEGREE IN FASHION DESIGN

Tory Burch receives an Honorary Master’s Degree at Istituto Marangoni Miami in recognition of her significant contributions to the fashion industry and her commitment to mentoring the next generation of designers.

MIAMI, FL, March 12, 2024—Istituto Marangoni Miami (IMM) hosted the renowned fashion designer Tory Burch for an exclusive edition of its “In Conversation With” series on its campus. During her visit, Burch shared invaluable insights from her illustrious career, inspiring students with lessons on innovation, resilience, and the importance of challenging industry norms.

Moderated by IMM’s Executive Vice President Eva Hughes, the conversation delved into Burch’s journey of establishing her iconic brand. Reflecting on her unconventional path, Burch emphasized, “I did not take the route that everyone else took.” This mindset led her to launch an e-commerce platform in 2004, a bold move at the time that eventually attracted 8 million hits after a top-name mention. Burch encouraged students to identify gaps in the industry and leverage them to build something unique and impactful.

In addition to discussing her brand’s evolution, Burch addressed the challenges of navigating the fashion industry and the critical role women have played in shaping its landscape. She offered practical advice, reminding students, “How you leave a company is as important as how you perform at work. This industry is tiny, and you will meet all those people in your next move.”

As a highlight of the event, IMM President and CEO Hakan Baykam awarded Tory Burch an Honorary Master’s Degree in Fashion Design. This prestigious recognition celebrates her significant contributions to the fashion and arts community and marks her first honorary degree from a fashion school. Burch joins a select group of honorees, following Scott Mescudi also known as “Kid Cudi,” who received the degree the past winter.
