Level 4: The fashion editorial level

Program Description

In this Fashion Editorial Level, the students plan, organize and realize their first model photo shootings using props. After learning analytical and interpretation techniques, the students interpret a concept in a contemporary manner, work on the set and direct the photographer and their team (hair stylist, makeup artist, model, and assistant(s)). Students also discover beauty, hair and makeup from history to the upcoming trends. This area enhances the students’ skills in being able to consider the models’ appearance and select the most appropriate makeup and hairstyle. Students are required to build research books related to the photo shoots, which will support the final outcomes and will help them to communicate their ideas and concepts. All the final outcomes will be retouched and edited in the form of a fashion magazine. In addition, the students gain a real understanding of a specific professional role undertaken by a stylist, namely the personal stylist. This unit consolidates problem solving, preparing the students for real life industry scenarios, and giving them the opportunity to define their own creative and personal fashion style.

SUBJECTS

Each level consists of 6 courses for the entire 11-week level. This will total in 18 hours a week of class, each course is 3 hour blocks; the professors grant a break between classes. THere will be weekly assignments, midterms and final projects for each class. 

FASHION STYLING

Students will dive deeper into the Fashion Styling fundamentals primarily analyzing magazines and their style identity, editorial coordination, fashion trends focusing on make-up trends to then jump into their final fashion styling project which would be a beauty shoot. 

FINAL FASHION PROJECT

Analysis of Fashion Editorial style in commercial and independent magazines, to then jump into the semester project on beauty editorial photoshoots and visual communication on beauty brands. Students learn how to create the styling rules for a correctly coordinated editorial., Beauty editorials between creativity and product.

EDITORIAL DESIGN

Students learn the art of designing visually captivating and engaging editorial layouts for fashion publications, honing their skills in creating editorial designs that effectively communicate fashion narratives. Students will go over magazine layout development, advanced InDesign editing skills to then go into magazine design and art direction. 

PHOTO RETOUCHING

Students acquire advanced skills in digital image editing to enhance and refine fashion photographs, including skin retouching, color correction, composition adjustments, and other post-processing methods.

PHOTOGRAPHY

Students delve into the art and techniques of capturing stunning fashion images. They learn essential skills in composition, lighting, styling, and visual storytelling. 

PERSONAL STYLING

Students develop the skills to provide personalized fashion advice and styling services to clients. Students will learn about personal styling, wardrobe, and body shapes, materials and accessories trends, color analysis, types of clothing, and the new canons of beauty. 

PRODUCTION AND SET DESIGN

Students delve into the behind-the-scenes aspects of fashion shoots and events. Students will dive into what production is, the difference between production for advertising and fashion show production, and then learn about how to set design in where they will conduct a photoshoot. 

LEARNING OUTCOMES

On successful completion of this unit students will be able to:

  • Present a professional body of work evidencing extensive research and innovative outcomes.
  • Exemplify proficient styling editorial shootings production in a body of work.
  • Apply a personal, individual style through the use of garments, accessories and set design.
  • Integrate advanced CAD techniques to inform final outcomes in a magazine format.

These learning outcomes interplay perfectly with the previous levels of the One Year Vocational Program for the students to progressively grow as a fashion stylist through a personalized class curriculum and hands-on experience. 

HOW TO APPLY 

The Vocational Programs provide flexibility to the student that does not want to commit for a full year program but wants to start a section of the program to see if it is the right fit. As to this, you are able to apply to the individual levels of the Vocational Programs and then see if you want to continue. To apply to a stand-alone level, students are able to select the ‘11-week level courses’ in the application form.  Students will then be able to apply to their corresponding level and program.
