Level 2: Developing the fashion environment

Program Description

Students will explore the environment around the fashion industry from a social and sustainable point of view, gaining an understanding of the new consumer and areas of interaction within the market. This level will dive into the process of production, logistics and the role of buyers and their importance in the fashion industry. As well, it will teach students how to create a sustainable business plan. 

SUBJECTS 

Each level consists of 6 courses for the entire 11-week level. This will total in 18 hours a week of class, each course is 3 hour blocks; the professors grant a break between classes. There will be weekly assignments, midterms and final projects for each class. 

PRODUCTION 360

Student delves deeper into the operational intricacies of fashion production, encompassing topics such as supply chain management, manufacturing optimization, quality assurance, and sustainability to effectively oversee the entire production cycle for a fashion business. The course will allow students to have insight on fabrics and materials, luxury production, product development and sustainability. 

SOCIOLOGY OF FASHION

Explore the social and cultural dimensions of fashion within society. Students examine the impact of fashion on identity, status, and self-expression, as well as its role in shaping social norms, trends, and consumer behavior. The course will go over social theories in the fashion industry, fashion culture and identity, identity, gender and lifestyle in the fashion context, consumer behavior, ethics within fashion and the future consumer. 

PRINCIPLES OF BUSINESS

Cover advanced topics such as strategic planning, marketing strategies, financial management, human resources, and leadership. In this next level of this course, students will learn about key factors of a successful business, corporate governance and control, power of supply and demand, economic growth and economic fundamentals in relation to the luxury and fashion market. 

THE BUYING ARENA

Focus on the dynamic and complex world of retail buying. Students learn about the principles and strategies involved in the buying process. The course will go over the process of buying and buying roles, product analysis and the product mix, fashion retail and strategic distribution, sourcing and pricing and supply chain management. 

FASHION COMMUNICATION & MARKETING

Students learn about various marketing channels and techniques specific to the fashion industry, including advertising, public relations, digital marketing, social media, and brand management.

LEARNING OUTCOMES

On successful completion of this unit students will be able to:

  • Demonstrate an awareness of connections between social theories in the new market context and the opportunities of sustainable fashion in future brand development. 
  • Understand the basic elements of textiles and materials necessary to craft a fashion product and analyze production processes. 
  • Analyze marketing communication strategies applied within the fashion business context. 
  • LO4. Understand the role of the buyers and their importance within the fashion industry. 
  • LO5. Adopt key business principles and understand the development of business strategies.

These learning outcomes interplay perfectly with the next levels of the One Year Vocational Program for the students to progressively grow as a fashion business student and professional through a personalized class curriculum and hands-on experience. 

HOW TO APPLY 

The Vocational Programs provide flexibility to the student that does not want to commit for a full year program but wants to start a section of the program to see if it is the right fit. As to this, you are able to apply to the individual levels of the Vocational Programs and then see if you want to continue. To apply to a stand-alone level, students are able to select the ‘11-week level courses’ in the application form.  Students will then be able to apply to their corresponding level and program.
